New Apple SmartWatch can be difficult to sell, with 69 percent of Americans indicating that they are not interested in buying the gadget, according to a Reuters / Ipsos.

However, the survey also showed limited knowledge of the watch. The survey was conducted after Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook on Monday launched the product, and only half of those surveyed said they had heard the news of the clock in these  days
.

Also, in  Apple, roughly 13 percent of respondents who did not own an iPhone, said they would consider buying one to buy a watch from Apple, you need an iPhone to work fully.

Apple overcame skepticism about the iPad and the iPod when it first debuted, but the survey suggests that the largest technology company in the world has work to do to make pervasive the clock.

The new watch, a test of leadership Cook, is the first new product from the company in five years, and arrive in stores on April 24.

Allows users to check email, listen to music and make phone calls from your wrist. Apple sold several versions, from an edition $ 349 “sport” of a gold watch 18k $ 17,000.

Ipsos 1,245 Americans surveyed online between March 9 and March 13 The data were weighted to reflect the population of the United States and has a credibility interval of plus or minus 3.2 percentage points.

Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the survey.

More than half of respondents, 52 percent, according to the statement that smartwatches are a “fad”.

A quarter of respondents said they were interested in buying the watch from Apple, but 69 percent said they had no desire, and 6 percent said they were unsure.

It is expected that the initial demand for the watch come primarily from existing iPhone users, but their wider success is based on whether developers to create compelling applications tailored to the device, called killer apps.

Apple is among several big technology companies looking to drive a new market for electronic “wearable” devices. Samsung Electronics, Sony Corp and LG Electronics have all launched their own smartwatches, many of them based on software developed by the Internet company Google Inc.

But consumers still have to cotton to the notion of  mini devices. Google recently stopped sales to consumers glass screen $ 1500 attached to the glasses that routinely mocked for his awkward appearance.

Smartwatches about 4.6 million were sold worldwide in 2014, according to research firm Strategy expectations are, a fraction of the more than one billion smartphones sold worldwide.

Many in the technology industry expect Apple, famous for his attracting features of marketing and loyal fans, have the power to transform smartwatches a product that appeals to the general public.
