Google tech exhibits augmented vision

  



Google has applied with the US Patent and Trademark Office for a new technology that will allow users wearing Google Glass-like device get information about objects within their line of vision, International Business Times reported.

Titled “Self-Describing 3D Object Recognition and Control Descriptors for Augmented Reality Interfaces,” the technology will “provide for the detection and recognition of target devices by a mobile computing device”, the patent description said.

According to the patent, the technology can only work for objects “within a pre-defined local environment”. It means that it will work in locations where Google Glass already has the information for every object that is there.



According to media reports, Google may also be testing the next version of the Google Glass called GG1. Google has a new eye wearable device in the works under the latest US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) filing, which “might just be a new Google Glass”, Droid Life reported.

The FCC tests electronic products to ensure that they are safe for human contact. Google withdrew the eye-wearable device from the market in January this year but reports said that the US tech giant was planning to come up with a different version of the wearable headset.

Facebook is tweaking their algorithms to account for new metrics: the amount of time you spend looking at things in their food, whether or not actively interacts with it, TechCrunch reported.



Scroll past something without stopping for long, and algorithms of Facebook will slowly learn that you do not particularly care for that type of content.



Stop at a post for a bit, and Facebook the timer behind the scenes begins. If you spend more time in the story of what happens in most things in their feed for a "study of an image, seeking comment thread of a" they will take this as a sign that is something you matter.



This change allows Facebook algorithms for taking track without moving a finger.



Once things move towards the analysis of passive behavior, Facebook News Feed begins to understand what matters to you more than you ever could.

















Facebook said it will present the algorithm tweak in the coming weeks. However, we do not expect drastic changes in what pops up in your diet, at least not soon. It will take some time before it really makes an impact.





Especially, pages are not likely to see significant changes in the distribution as a result of this update.

Driverless car review launched by UK government

  







Changes to road regulations and car maintenance checks will be necessary to accommodate driverless cars on the roads of the UK, a Department of Transport report  confirmed

The government wants the UK to become a world leader in driverless technology.
It will publish a code of practice in the spring which will allow the testing of autonomous cars to go ahead.
Self-drive pods that will be tested in Milton Keynes and Coventry have been unveiled for the first time.
The government promised a full review of current legislation by the summer of 2017.
That review will involve a rewrite of the Highway Code and adjustments to MOT test guidelines, potentially taking into account whether a higher standard of driving should be demanded of automated vehicles.

It will also look at who would be responsible in the event of a collision and how to ensure the safety of drivers and pedestrians.
The publish department of Transport report acknowledged that true driverless cars may be some way off and that current tests of the technology will need to include a qualified test driver to supervise the vehicle.
"Driverless vehicle technology has the potential to be a real game-change on the UK's roads, altering the face of motoring in the most fundamental of ways and delivering major benefits for road safety, social inclusion, emissions and congestion," said transport minister Claire Perry.
The government is providing £19m to launch four driverless car schemes in four UK locations.
